QMS gives Forder Valley the Platinum touch!

Our line marking and HyperGrip™ crews have been busy over the past few weeks on the new Forder Valley Link Road in Plymouth on behalf of Steve Hoskin Construction, Balfour Beatty & South West Highways*.

The new link road, affectionately named “Platinum Parkway” between the new village of Sherford and Plymouth is the largest individual link road project in the South West since the opening of the South Devon Link Road between Newton Abbot and Torquay in 2015 where 8,700m2 of HyperGrip™ plus line marking was installed by QMS.

The project layout was a perfect opportunity for our pre-marking robot ‘Nigel’ to really flex his muscles and show us what he can do and what a job he did! He certainly lived up to his namesake, the late Nigel Maidment with the accuracy of the pre-marking. Saving time and improving accuracy on this extremely prestigious project.

Part of the scheme is a designated Bus Lane which has diverge arrows at each termination point. The setting out of these arrows was no issue for Nigel who, at the skilled hands of Contracts Manager, Liam Mead set out the pre-marking for the arrows with precision accuracy and in a fraction of the time.

Following the line marking, our HyperGrip system was installed by our fully qualified crew in pigmented red and light buff colours designating specific sections of the project as required. Our HyperGrip™ system is a fast cure MMA based resin fully approved by BBA HAPAS as a Type 1 system. Our designated vehicle for installation was designed by our Managing Director, Greg Clark and built by our supply chain partner in France, Aximum who also manufacture the resin used within the HyperGrip™ system.

HyperGrip is offered with a FIVE YEAR guarantee and has been specifically designed to eliminate perimeter and transverse cracking which is common with other cold applied high friction systems.

Preformed Thermoplastic was selected and installed for the cycle symbols to ensure 100% conformity to the drawings.

Forder Valley Link Road is due to open later in 2023 and is anticipated to dramatically reduce traffic congestion on the A386 Tavistock Road and Manadon Roundabout.

*HyperGrip only for South West Highways, line marking on this section was completed by others.
