LifeLine™ is a sophisticated data collection service that measures the retro-reflectivity performance of road markings and road studs across any given network.
Travelling at normal traffic speeds within speed restrictions, the LaserLux LLG7 retro-reflectometer is mounted to a survey vehicle using suction brackets. Capable of operating in daylight or night-time conditions, the system scans the road surface 400 times per second, producing average readings at pre-determined intervals (typically every 100 m on carriageways and every 50 m on slip roads).
A forward-facing high-definition video camera records each route, seamlessly linking video footage to survey results. Output is split into easy-to-view 5-minute segments, enabling users to pinpoint exact carriageway sections referenced in the data. Road studs are also individually assessed for retro-reflective performance and logged within the results tables.
Survey results are produced instantly on completion and supplied in multiple formats:
LifeLine™ is designed for use on any section of the network with longitudinal road markings, including:
The system can be mounted on either side of the survey vehicle, ensuring accurate measurement of both near-side and off-side markings.
QMS LifeLine™ meets the requirements of CS 126 for retro-reflectivity testing.
There is no specific surface preparation required for LifeLine™ retro-reflectivity testing. However, the surface must be dry for accurate measurement.
LifeLine™ provides road authorities and asset managers with powerful insights:
LifeLine™ is an advanced, non-intrusive retro-reflectivity testing service that provides:
By adopting LifeLine™, asset managers gain a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable method of monitoring road marking and road stud performance, ensuring safer networks for road users.
