Bringing Line Marking to Life at Torquay Academy

At QMS, we believe that what we do matters. Our work lives on the roads and surfaces you use every day, but our impact starts in the communities we serve. When Torquay Academy invited us to their careers fair, we didn’t want to just hand out leaflets. We wanted to leave a mark…literally.

Liam and Virginia represented QMS at the event, and from the start, the plan was to bring the same energy and hands-on spirit that made our Precision in Action day such a success. Rather than a static display, they created a live simulation that gave students a real feel for what it means to be a line marker, complete with sand, a jug and a mould, letting each student step into the role and experience the precision our teams bring to every job. It gave everyone a glimpse into the steady hand and technical skill required to be a professional line marker.

The activity was a hit, and as for getting students to take part, a QMS-branded sticker turned out to be the perfect incentive. Sometimes it really is the simple things, but those little moments of engagement opened the door to genuine conversations about our industry, our work, and the careers within it, from being a line marker to Finance, Science, and Marketing.

That was the core mission. Many of the students we met are the next generation of drivers. They will soon be navigating the very junctions and highways our teams perfect every night. Line marking isn’t just “painting.” It is a high-stakes blend of innovation, specialist engineering, and literal life-saving accuracy. Events like this allow us to pull back the curtain on a career path many had never even considered.

Community engagement is something we take seriously at QMS. The roads are safer, car parks are clearer, and playgrounds are brighter because of the work our teams carry out every day, and helping young people understand and appreciate that felt like exactly the right message to bring to a school careers fair.
