When Wayne Johnston, Managing Director of WJ Group contacted QMS Managing Director, Greg Clark to ask for assistance in delivering high friction surfacing for the Orange Emergency Refuge Areas for Highways England, there was only one response!

Immediately, the wheels were in motion, fully utilising our supply chain manufacturers to produce the specific RAL 1033 Organic Pigment needed for the colouration of the Methacolle Resin used within the HyperGripTM system within a one-week timescale to enable delivery and installation to be achieved as required.

The material was designed, tested for UV stability and manufactured ready for collection from Caudry in France within one-week following the initial telephone conversation and on the day the first installation was due.

Heavily reliant on the transport network between the UK and France, Greg Clark travelled to Caudry himself to collect the pigment before returning to the M3 to meet the HyperGripTM team in advance of the first installation of HyperGripTM 1033 on the Smart Motorway network.

The resin pigmented perfectly and in conjunction with the double-coated RAL 1033 Chinese Bauxite, provided a full-colour solution meeting the exact demands of Highways England.

To further enhance delivery of the ERAs and other projects, WJ South formally became Approved Installers of the HyperGripTM system which since the BBA certification in June 2015 has surpassed 135,000m2 of Type 1 locations being installed throughout the UK.

An Immediate High Friction Surfacing Success!

QMS HyperGripTM is a cold applied BBA HAPAS Type 1 system, certificate number 15/H233 comprising of a Methyl Methacrylate binder and Calcined Bauxite aggregate. The system is installed with a FIVE YEAR guarantee and when cured remains extremely flexible, significantly reducing the risk of post installation cracking to the finished surface.

The installation was an immediate success and an instruction to install HyperGripTM 1033 to the remaining Emergency Refuge Areas on the M3 Smart Motorway network was issued.

There has been a couple of crews doing the lining and antiskid works local to me on the new surfacing project on Callington road, Tavistock and the quality of work is spot on. Its done nothing but rain here for the last 2 months and as someone who spent over 25 years lining I can appreciate what they`ve been up against, especially with anti skid and MMA lining materials.
