HyperLine™ & HyperLine™ ULTRA – Technical and Environmental Product Overview

Technical Sheet

Introduction

HyperLine™ and HyperLine™ ULTRA are high-performance, spray-applied road marking systems developed to maintain and rejuvenate existing markings. Both systems are cold-applied, eliminating the need for heat during installation and delivering significant benefits in terms of operator safety, environmental performance, and long-term durability.

Formulated using a solvent-free acrylic resin with embedded glass beads, these systems deliver enhanced and sustainable retro-reflectivity. Applied directly over existing markings, they restore colour, visibility, and retro-reflective performance — ensuring safer and clearer delineation for road users on Motorways and Dual Carriageways.

HyperLine™ offers outstanding all-round performance for the refurbishment of edge-line markings, while HyperLine™ ULTRA builds on this by delivering superior retro-reflectivity, particularly in wet-night conditions. Together, they provide a versatile and sustainable solution for road marking maintenance.

Technical Description

Precision Application

  • HyperLine™ is spray-applied directly onto existing road markings, providing rapid reinstatement of visibility and retro-reflectivity.
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA uses advanced bead technology to maximise wet-night performance.
  • Computer-controlled spray systems ensure consistent bead embedment and uniform film thickness across every application.

Bead Technology

  • HyperLine™ uses glass beads manufactured from recycled glass, delivering consistent retro-reflectivity while supporting sustainability.
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA incorporates larger, high refractive index beads, significantly enhancing retro-reflectivity performance, particularly in wet-night conditions.

Colours and Customisation

Standard colour is white, with other colours available subject to minimum order quantities.

Locations of Use

  • HyperLine™ – Overspray of existing edge-line markings on Motorways and Dual Carriageways, including hatching and chevrons (applied by hand spray).
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA – Overspray of lane-line markings on Motorways and Dual Carriageways, and for the rejuvenation of QMS EcoRib™ and EcoRib PLUS™ systems.

Performance

HyperLine™ and HyperLine™ ULTRA have been rigorously tested with Road Trial Certification:

  • HyperLine™: P5, R3, S2, Q2
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA: P5, R4, S1, Q3 & P6, R3, S1, Q2

Health & Safety Benefits

Both HyperLine™ systems are fully cold-applied, requiring no heat for materials, tools, or equipment. This ensures:

  • Zero burn risk for operatives.
  • Safer application in live carriageway environments, with no residual hot surfaces.
  • Elimination of fossil-fuel burners, reducing carbon emissions.

Daily Shift Outputs

  • HyperLine™ – Up to 30,000 m (200 mm wide edge line) per 8-hour shift (approx. 6,000 m²).
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA – Up to 40,000 m (carriageway length) of lane line or 20,000 m (200 mm wide edge line) per 8-hour shift (approx. 4,000 m²).

Surface Preparation

The surface to receive HyperLine™ / HyperLine™ ULTRA is to be clean, dry and free from contaminates such as dirt, grease, oils and road salt.

Pre-cleaning of the surface using mechanical sweeping or forced drying would be determined during a pre-site inspection.

Calculation of the dew point is critical for any surface treatment installation. This is determined by calculating the air temperature together with the humidity. In situations where the ground temperature is below the calculated dew point, forced drying and heating of the road surface is usually possible to maintain progress for installation.

Guarantee and Life Expectancy

  • Guaranteed Performance – 24 months
  • Typical Life Expectancy – 36 to 60 months (depending on location and traffic conditions).

Ongoing Maintenance

When HyperLine™ or HyperLine™ ULTRA performance begins to decline but remains above specification minimums, both systems can be oversprayed again to restore retro-reflectivity.

  • No removal is required prior to re-application.
  • The thin coating system prevents long-term material build-up.
  • This reduces waste, surface disturbance, and environmental impact.

Environmental Benefits

Carbon Footprint Reduction

By eliminating the need for heating, HyperLine™ significantly lowers CO₂ emissions. For 5,000 m² of marking:

  • HyperLine™: 2,205 kg CO₂ (0.441 kg/m²)
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA: 3,810 kg CO₂ (0.762 kg/m²)
  • Thermoplastic: 19,600 kg CO₂ (3.92 kg/m²)

This represents a saving of 17,395 kg CO₂ (89%) with HyperLine™ and 15,790 kg CO₂ (81%) with HyperLine™ ULTRA compared to thermoplastic.

Additionally, HyperLine™ achieves this in a single shift, whereas thermoplastic would require three shifts for the same output, compounding environmental savings and reducing traffic disruption.

Material Savings and Microplastic Reduction

Road markings account for up to 7% of global ocean microplastics. The HyperLine™ systems address this by using thin coatings whilst extending life expectancy and reducing material demand:

Over 5,000 m² of markings:

  • HyperLine™: 4,250 kg of material
  • HyperLine™ ULTRA: 6,000 kg of material
  • Thermoplastic: 17,500 kg of material

This results in reductions of 13,250 kg (76%) with HyperLine™ and 11,500 kg (66%) with HyperLine™ ULTRA in potential ocean microplastics.

With an average daily saving of 12,375 kg, over a standard working year (252 shifts) this equates to a potential reduction of 3,118 tonnes of ocean microplastics.

Conclusion

HyperLine™ and HyperLine™ ULTRA provide a next-generation solution for road marking refurbishment, combining:

  • Rapid reinstatement of colour and reflectivity on Motorways and Dual Carriageways.
  • Exceptional safety improvements, with superior wet-night visibility using HyperLine™ ULTRA.
  • Sustainable bead technology, with HyperLine™ using recycled glass beads and HyperLine™ ULTRA using high refractive index beads.
  • Cold-applied systems, eliminating burns and reducing embedded carbon.
  • Outstanding productivity, with up to 40,000 m installed per shift.
  • Significant environmental benefits, with up to 89% CO₂ savings and over 70% reductions in potential microplastic release.

By adopting HyperLine™ systems, stakeholders achieve cost-effective, high-performance road marking maintenance while supporting sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection.
