You have three quotes on your desk for your new warehouse line marking project.
Quote A is £2,500. Quote B is £4,500. Quote C is £8,000.
It is tempting to look at the bottom line, assume Quote C is overpriced, and sign off on Quote A. Who doesn’t want to save money?
But in the line marking industry, there is no such thing as “free lunch.” The price difference usually isn’t about profit margins. It is about the chemistry of the materials, the application and the longevity.
If you buy the wrong spec, you lose. If you put a temporary marking product in a high-traffic loading bay, it could fail in months. Equally, you may not need a highly durable system in a building you are leasing for only one more year.
At QMS, we install everything from budget-friendly to diamond-hard. We don’t mind which one you choose, as long as it fits your reality.
Before you sign any quote, ask yourself these five questions.
This is a big factor.
“We are leaving in 12 months / It’s a short lease.” The Verdict: Go for tape or a single-pack epoxy. There is zero point investing in a 5-year+ system for someone else’s floor. Save the budget.
“We own the building / We are here for 5+ years.” The Verdict: You need a premium system. Cheap paint will need re-doing annually. Over 5 years, that is five invoices and five sets of disruption. Do it once, do it right.
Paint needs to dry. While it dries, you cannot use that aisle, that walkway, or that loading dock.
“We can shut down the area for a weekend.” The Verdict: You can use Epoxy. It is durable and looks great, but it requires a significant curing time (often overnight) to harden and has an unpleasant odour.
“We run 24/7. Closing a lane costs us money.” The Verdict: You need UV Cure. These systems cure instantly. We can install it during a lunch break, and you can drive a forklift over it immediately after.
“Mostly people, heavy foot traffic and the odd pallet truck.” The Verdict: Epoxy or 2-part polyurethane is usually sufficient.
“Heavy counterbalance forklifts. reach trucks. constant turning wheels.” The Verdict: You need the premium spec. When a forklift turns its wheels while stationary, the friction tears standard paint off the concrete like a sticker.
“We sweep it occasionally.” The Verdict: Any system will work.
“We use aggressive industrial scrubber-dryers.” The Verdict: Avoid single-pack paints. Industrial scrubbers act like sanders; they will wash cheap line marking away in weeks. You need a resin system that is chemically resistant to cleaning fluids and abrasion.
“We are testing a new workflow. It might change.” The Verdict: Use Tape. It is cheap and easy to remove if the trial doesn’t work.
“This is our fixed safety layout for the next decade.“ The Verdict: Commit to UV Cured. It anchors to the floor and becomes a permanent asset.
If you look at those three quotes again, you’ll see they aren’t just different prices. They are different solutions.
Quote A – The “Quick Fix” (Ideal for short leases and testing).
Quote B- The “Standard” (Great for general warehousing).
Quote C: The “QMS Ultimate” (The permanent solution for busy hubs).
