As sponsors of both Ethan Roots and Brixham Rugby U14’s, we worked with Exeter Chiefs to bring the two together at Sandy Park for an evening we hope the boys will be talking about for a long time.
Ethan, who had not long returned from being captain of England A against Ireland XV, led the squad through a training session before taking them on a behind-the-scenes tour of Sandy Park. For a group of young lads who show up every Sunday and give everything for their club, being on that pitch with someone who has walked the same path felt like exactly the kind of moment sport is meant to create.
The idea of bringing grassroots rugby to the professional level was a chance to show them that the world they’re dreaming about isn’t as far away as it might seem. For a lot of these boys, Ethan is someone they look up to, so to have him there not just as a face but as someone genuinely investing his time into them meant a great deal.
The stadium tour added something a bit different too. Most of us only ever see the 80 minutes. What you don’t see is everything that happens before any of that, the changing rooms, the preparation, the routine. Getting to walk through that with the Brixham lads was a special moment.
To Exeter Chiefs, thank you for opening your doors. To Ethan, thank you for being the kind of person these boys deserve to look up to. And to the Brixham Rugby U14s, we hope you left Sandy Park believing in yourselves a little more than when you arrived.
Keep working hard. You never know where this path leads.
