QMS are proud to have worked together with Egis on the improvement of the M40 (The best motorway in England)

Egis M40 Slip Road Refresh Scheme

5 November 2024 Virginia Scheuerle

QMS was invited to tender for Egis M40 slip road refresh scheme as part of their 2024 portfolio of works. We successfully won the tender and were thrilled to be given the opportunity to deliver this amazing scheme and continue to work with the awesome team at Egis!

As this was a long-duration project and our commitment to reducing CO2 we set ourselves up a depot just off the M40 to allow the storage of materials plant and vehicles, this meant that the teams could travel back to Devon in a single vehicle instead of running up and down the country in multiple vehicles reducing vehicle emissions into the environment.

The scheme covered 64 slip roads on the M40 including entry and exit slips, along the Northbound carriageway and Southbound carriageway and with only one shift to complete each one meant there was no room for errors!

The project was delivered using some of our amazing cold-applied systems including, MMA Joint repair, hand-applied lettering and arrows, and QMS HyperLine™ along the edge line, lane line and chevrons which were all polished off with the stud replacement.

Bringing the standard up to the super high standard people have grown to know and love from QMS systems.

Our HyperLine™ system is cold applied, with no gas or diesel fuel burnt in the installation process. QMS HyperLine™ is an award-winning, waterborne acrylic highway system that is used in replacement of traditional line marking solutions for a visible and long-lasting road marking solution. HyperLine™ is guaranteed to exceed 200 MCD/m2/LUX for 24 months after application which we test using our QMS LifeLine™ system.

Quality systems with MASSIVE Co2 Reductions of 81% on the M40!

On this scheme, we have managed to help Egis M40 reduce their Co2 impact on the environment with some staggering figures compared to traditional thermoplastic overspray and screed:

Edge line – completed 67,555m using QMS HyperLine™ reducing Co2 impact by a staggering 42.6 tons in comparison to traditional thermoplastic overspray!

Lane line – installing 8,441m of HyperLine if we had installed the same section in thermoplastic the Co2 emissions would be 3.3 tons!

Chevrons – completing 10,120m2 of chevrons we reduced CO2 emissions by 31.9 tons.

At QMS, we consistently try to ensure that all the work we are completing is sustainable, causing minimal to no harm to the environment. We are currently undergoing the Devon Junction Scheme alongside Devon County Council replacing all thermoplastic line-marked junctions with cold-applied MMA.
