How the right sports court design can get kids more engaged in Physical Education (PE).

7 March 2025 Virginia Scheuerle

Physical Education (PE) plays a crucial part of childhood development and has been common in schools since the 1800s helping kids stay active, build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and improve mental well-being. Yet, many schools struggle with student engagement which can be caused by unmaintained or inadequate sports facilities such as sports courts.

Sports courts are designed to play an important role in making PE lessons exciting and accessible for all students, making high-quality court markings and layouts an important element to transforming how children interact with physical activities.

Clear, Vibrant Sport Courts

A well-designed sports court can directly impact participation levels as shown in the case study mentioned. Clear, vibrant, and well-maintained line markings on a sports court can keep PE lessons structured and enjoyable, ensuring that games run smoothly, and students are engaged.

Multi-Purpose Sport Courts for Maximum Engagement

We can design your sports court with versatility in mind. Coloured lines can make instructions to students easier when using the court for multiple purposes such as basketball netball and football. A variety of sports keeps children interested and can cater to different skill levels and interests.

Encouraging Active Play Beyond PE Lessons

Maybe your sports court isn’t just for structured PE lessons and students have access at break times. A bright well-maintained sports court can inspire active play during these times. Students naturally gravitate towards engaging play areas and are likely to use them for friendly matches, improving their skills in an informal environment which is likely to lead to an increased love for sports and physical activity beyond the classroom.

But don’t just take it from us.

Lake County Intermediate School transformed its mostly barren schoolyard into a colourful, active playground. The students were observed, and the results were phenomenal, just check them out below!
