How do you maintain a resin bound driveway?

Resin bound surfacing, in general, does not require much maintenance. One of its many beneficial properties is its permeable surface. In turn, this provides less risk of slipping on standing water or ice and over time reduces the build-up of moss, algae and other stains. (One of the 5 reasons to choose resin bound driveway surfacing).

As resin bound surfacing, such as pathways, driveways and commercial surfacing, is fairly low-maintenance, rainwater, which in the UK we have an abundance of, can actually help you keep your driveway fairly clean and clear. Partner this with a once or twice annual light pressure wash or garden brush, your resin driveway maintenance should help keep your surface looking fresh, for many years to come!

At QMS, unlike other resin bound surfacing providers, we offer a maintenance package to ensure your resin surfacing is kept looking it’s finest.

Can you pressure wash resin surfacing?

As resin surfacing is a permeable surfacing solution, made by mixing aggregates of varying sizes and colours with resin, it’s important to not put too much pressure on your driveway with your pressure washer.

Using a lower-pressure setting, around 1200 to 1500 psi (pounds per square inch), is normally a suitable pressure for a resin bound surfacing cleaning.

Our top tips for maintaining your resin bound surfacing

Depending on the location and how often your resin bound surfacing is in use, will depend on how often you may need to care for and maintain your resin surfacing. For example, if you have a domestic driveway that is used for car parking, you may not need to maintain your resin as often as you would for commercial surfacing use.

Our top tips for ensuring your resin bound driveway stays looking perfect include:

Regular sweeping

As well as regular housing, as mentioned above, we do recommend frequent sweeping of your resin bound surfacing to prevent debris build-up. Leaves and other organic materials, if left, could potentially lead to staining or slipper patches on your driveway.

A stiff bristle broom will help you not only sweep surface debris from the driveway but also help to get anything that could be stuck to your resin as well. If your resin surface isn’t kept clear of debris, moss could grow on your resin bound driveway. Which could lead to further damage down the line, such as loose stones and a less smooth surface.

Keep clear of salt, de-icer and other chemicals

In the winter months, if your resin surfacing is in constant use, either at home or in a commercial setting, it’s important to keep your driveway clear of snow and ice, for safety reasons. However, once winter and the risk of ice and snow have decreased, it’s important to wash away any salt or de-icer off of your resin driveway.
